Titleist ProV1 vs Costco Kirkland Golf Ball

Hi friends and golfers. Coach Erik Schjolberg here with EJS Golf coming to you with a golf ball story. I am doing this because I have heard so much about this golf ball from Costco that I want everyone out there to know the difference so that you are armed with information to shoot the best scores possible.

When it comes to the performance of Kirkland Golf Balls versus Titleist Pro V1, it's essential to consider various factors. Equipped with a Trackman launch monitor and ample testing time on both a golf course and an indoor facility, we gathered data to help you make an informed decision. In this comprehensive analysis, we compared distance, spin, feel, longevity, and value to determine the best option for your golf game.

In terms of distance, both the Kirkland golf balls and the Pro V1 performed admirably. However, using a driver with a swing speed of 105mph, we observed that the Kirkland balls had a slightly lower average carry and roll due to their higher spin rates. While the difference in distance was minimal, it's worth noting that the Pro V1 provided a slight advantage in terms of total distance.

Spin plays a crucial role, especially around the greens. Our testing revealed that the Kirkland golf balls exhibited significantly higher spin rates compared to the Pro V1. This translates to more spin and stopping power on approach shots. However, it also resulted in a few yards less distance on iron shots.

When it comes to green side performance, the Pro V1 outshined the Kirkland Signature. While the Kirkland balls could stop on the greens, especially under ideal conditions, the Pro V1 demonstrated more consistency in its flight and reaction upon landing. This may be attributed to the Pro V1's superior feel and the technology invested in its multi-layer construction.

Considering longevity, both the Kirkland and Pro V1 proved to be durable choices with their soft urethane covers. You can expect good durability from either option.

Value-wise, Kirkland golf balls offer an affordable solution, particularly with their two-dozen pack. This makes them a practical choice for players on a budget. However, it's important to note that the Pro V1 has established its position in the market based on its exceptional performance around the green. While the Pro V1 comes with a higher price tag, its premium features are worth considering if you prioritize green side performance.

Feel is subjective, but in our testing, the Pro V1 demonstrated a softer and more responsive feel, especially for chipping and putting. The Kirkland balls, although not hard, felt slightly less premium, particularly on centered strikes.

Overall, for beginners and mid-level golfers seeking a good golf ball without the investment of the Pro V1, the Kirkland Signature is a strong option. It delivers solid performance, although you may have to accept a few yards less off the tee and good, but not exceptional, feel and control around the green.

If you're currently playing with the Pro V1 and considering a switch to save money, I recommend focusing on improving your ball-striking to maximize the longevity of the Pro V1 for more than just one round of golf. The Pro V1's reputation as a great ball is well-deserved, and its pricing reflects its premium features.
